A look into the intersection between technology, art and design by french blogger Regine Debatty, founder of WeMakeMoneyNotArt.com.
Will Sansom used the Nike chalkbot as a case study on mondays CareWare session. Regine heard that, and thought she'd seen it before. And she had. Joshua Kinbergs bike-driven road printer is more than six years old. The point is, that a lot of seemingly innovative marketing ploys are directly inspired by what artists been doing several years before.
When looking at the future of design, some say that the user will be in complete control. Regine debates whether this is actually going to happen. In her opinion this will bore people, and her own lack of imagination will make her world more dull. Thus she still sees a great need for good design, and designers.
She talks on about distorting everyday life with design. Like installing a swing on a communist monument in western Europe. Or how street artists mess up street commercials, like changing McDonalds slogan to "I'm sick of it". It's a weird but also clever mixture of art and design. You can check out some of her cases here.
